Denmark - Måløv

Novo Nordisk is a partner in LITMUS, a newly established collaborative pan European research project aimed at identifying and validating biomarkers for Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and NAFLD with Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). In this context, we are looking for a talented Bioinformatics Scientist for a two-year PostDoc position. You will be employed in the Bioinformatics department, which is part of the Global Research organisation located at our research site in Måløv, Denmark (near Copenhagen).

About the department

The Bioinformatics department is responsible for managing, analysing and integrating biological data, such as transcriptomics, sequence, genetic and proteomics data. We are part of the early research projects at Novo Nordisk where we act as bioinformatics and data analysis experts and also participate in external collaborations with academic and biotech partners.

The position

Your main responsibility will be participation in the LITMUS project, which is an EU-funded, collaborative research project aimed at identifying and defining accurate and tractable biomarkers relevant to NAFLD as well as qualifying preclinical models of NAFLD/NASH and back-translate biomarkers for validation in these models. The goal is to establish a defined set of biomarkers that enable detection and monitoring of disease progression and regression from NAFLD through NASH to fibrosis and cirrhosis.

You will be involved in compiling existing datasets from various pre-clinical models into an integrated database. You will analyse data to establish links to phenotypic characteristics of the models. Based on standardised phenotyping and comparative biology analysis of in vivo NAFLD models, it will be determined which model(s) are the most phenotypically relevant to humans. Models for reverse-translation of human biomarkers into in vivo models will be generated to assess pre-clinical testing utility. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with pharmaceutical industry and university partners of the project. Hence some travelling must be expected.

You hold a PhD within natural sciences, preferably within bioinformatics. You have good analytical and interpersonal skills, and you are self-motivated with the ability to initiate, execute and deliver projects both independently and as a team-member. We expect that you have experience with or are familiar with the scripting and programming languages common to bioinformatics, including R, Python, perl and unix/linux shell scripting. Experience with the following is required:
  • Experience in integrating and analysing large genomics data sets (eg. Exome-Seq, RNA-Seq, Metabolomics)
  • Systems Biology/Pathway Mapping
  • Practical experience with qualification of biomarkers
  • Experience with clinical study data formats, CDISC/SDTM is an advantage
  • Knowledge of metabolic diseases is an advantage
Working at Novo Nordisk

At Novo Nordisk, your skills, dedication and ambition help us change lives for the better. In exchange, we offer you an opportunity to work with extraordinary talent and benefit from a range of possibilities for professional and personal development.
